the government just wants you to think they are satelites but we know the truth. spread the word before we are silenced. watch out for the men in black.

Constant speed, Proboly constant light, though the atmosphere may cause some blinking….

Usually satelites arent much brighter than stars i think.

Don’t quote me on this but I think that satellites go in a specific path across the sky, much like planets do. So if it looks like a bright star moving across the sky, then it should be a satellite. Unless you see things that just last a couple of seconds, then those are meteors.

It’d help if you gave more details on what it is exactly that you see every night. Color, shape, period of time, etc.

The best way to check what you’re saying is to consult a star map. I use http://stardome.astronomy.com/stardome/default.aspx to check for mostly planets and then http://www.heavens-above.com is a good site to find out where a satellite’s located in the sky.

BUT my favorite place to go is http://www.astronomy.com/asy/CS/forums. Just post your question in the appropriate topic and you’ve got professional astronomers as well as amateur beginners helping you find an answer.

i saw a ufo in bastrop (right outside of austin), tx. for me, when my friend and i saw it, there was no question. i still think about it almost everyday and it has changed my outlook on the world we live in and the possibilities of what is truly out there. if there is a god i wish he would give us some answers but nothing surprises me anymore. our world and our crazy wars and problems are really nothing in the whole realm of possible infinite worlds and space and time…….
take it easy and good luck with gaining some clarity

A satellite reflects sunlight, it will look similar to a star. The next time you see a light in the sky that has attracted your interest keep a steady gaze at it, if it moves in front of the background of stars at a steady pace and there is no flashing, you can almost be sure that you are tracking a satellite, it will cross the sky in about forty minutes from horizon the horizon.

I agree with some of the posts when it comes to constand speed and direction. Most UFO sightings or “alleged” sightings report hovering, stationary, or just plain old bizarre movement. If it darts one way then a different way I suppose that would classify as unidentified. Some of the most famous are those ones out in Arizona or new mexico, where several just hovered over a major city. So look for lack of movement (of an object not on the star maps previously listed), or even bizarre movement to tell you if that is a UFO or not.
